Volunteer Opportunity: Assistant Curator for NiddFest 2015
About NiddFest – This is a new literary festival, held in and around Pateley Bridge, North Yorks, which focuses on talks and events based on nature. Occurring annually at the end of July, NiddFest will bring together some of the UK’s leading authors, whose work is influenced by nature. There will be talks and workshops for adults and children, held over a weekend. These will run in conjunction with outdoor nature events in the stunning environment of Upper Nidderdale. There is currently no annual literary festival of this type in Europe, and NiddFest’s ambition is to become an exciting new entry on the UK literary festival scene, drawing in audiences locally and nationally. Carol Ann Duffy, the Poet Laureate, is patron of NiddFest.
The Role – The assistant curator will be a key part of the festival’s committee, with a wide range of responsibilities such as helping secure authors, overseeing the festival website, helping promote the festival and acting as the right hand of the festival curator. This is a part-time voluntary role, beginning ideally in late 2014 and concluding a week after NiddFest 2015 has taken place. This position is unpaid, although expenses will be covered. Until July 2015, it is envisaged that the assistant curator would come to Pateley Bridge one day a month, with approximately a further half day per week of NiddFest voluntary work undertaken from home. During July 2015, additional days may be needed.
The Candidate – The NiddFest committee is made up of persons with a wealth of experience in fund raising, conservation, advertising, journalism and publishing. It is envisaged that the assistant curator role would be someone interested in any of these fields, living in commuting range of Pateley Bridge. The successful candidate will receive mentorship in many of these areas in as far as they relate to his/her role.
Key Skills – We are looking for an enthusiastic, hard-working individual, who wants to be a part of this unique new festival. A proven interest in nature or literature is essential. Of particular benefit are knowledge of WordPress, social media and graphic design.
